Jhansi is the historical town of North India which is quintessentially associated with Rani Lakshmi Bai
who fought battles against the British and helped restore the kingdom for a brief period of time. Jhansi Fort


Built in 1613 by Maharaja Bir Singh Deo this Fort speaks tales of the violent killings that took place within the fort and the moat. The site map placed outside the Fort outlines the points of interest within the Fort. The Cannons Kadak Bijli and Bhavani Shankar are displayed here in the Fort. Panch Mahal, where the Rani spent her days with her husband Raja Gangadhar Rao, the Hanging Tower, where the British executed the prisoners are some of the points of interest. The Fort houses two temples Ganesh Temple and Shiv Temple, where the Rani offered her prayers regularly. The entry fee of Rs 5 is charged and guide facility is available for a nominal fee.

Government Museum


Visit to this 3-storey museum is enriching from the archaeological and historical point of view as they have an exhaustive collection of sculptures, paintings, coins, etc reflecting various facets of history. Rare collection of objects dating back to the 11th century, to the time of Bundelas, are displayed here. Light and sound show is made available on the ground floor of this museum for better clarity. The museum is surrounded by various parks like Rani Lakshmi Bai Park, Deen Dayal Sabhaghar, etc. One of the main attractions of the Museum is the Mutiny Memorial Park, which has various sculptures made from Metal scraps. Entree Fee to the Museum is Rs 25 and is open from 10 am to 4.30 pm.

Rani Mahal was one of the chief residences of the queen that has many small rooms; chief among them being Durbar Hall, decorated with brilliant colors of varied art forms. In the place of the Queen's Palace, stands the present day Museum having a collection of artifacts and objects of the past.

Gangadhar Rao ki Chathri


This cenotaph is an architectural commemoration to Maharaja Gangadhar Rao who was crowned the ruler of Jhansi in 1836. The king was known for his efforts in enriching the architecture of the city.

St. Jude's Shrine


St. Jude's Shrine is popular among the Catholic Christians attracting tourists from all corners of the country, on October 28th on the occasion of St. Jude's Feast. It is located at the center of the town and the mass timings are 6.30 am.

Barua Sagar Dam

This Dam is located 24 Kms from Jhansi on the way to Khajuraho in a idyllic location surrounded by greenery all around. Located at a higher altitude makes it all the more beautiful. This dam was also a war site in the battle that was fought between the Marathas and Bundelas in 1744.

Chirgon

The town of Chirgaon is situated 31 kilometers from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. It is situated on National Highway No. 25 that connects Jhansi with Kanpur. This ancient town is popular for its historic forts, the city gates and as the birthplace of three renowned Hindi poets namely Shri Mythali Sharan Gupta and his brother Shri Siyaram Sharan Gupt and Munshi Ajmeri. They are often referred to as the Triveni or three gems of Hindi Literature for their immense contribution to the field of Hindi language and literature.
