Churches in Jhansi

Jhansi is dotted with churches that were built during the medieval times during the British rule in India and some that were built post Independence. With the British rule having lasted for more than two centuries, it has left a mark on the people here. While most of the churches are located in the Cantonment area of Jhansi, few are located in Sipri Bazaar and the outlying towns of Jhansi. Some of the popular churches among the people here are St. Martin's Church, Yellow Church, CP Mission Church and Jhansi church. Churches namely, St. Jude's Shrine, St. Antony's Cathedral, Sacred Heart Church are under the purview of Jhansi Diocese.

St. Martin's Church in Jhansi

This church is located at Railway colony in Jhansi. This is one of the oldest churches in Jhansi built during the British Era in the 18th Century. Several memorial tablets of the British officers who served the army during the Independence struggle is one of the highlights of this church

CP Mission Church

The church is located in the Mission Compound near the Manik Chowk area of Jhansi town. The school also runs a nursery school for little children.

The Sacred Heart Church Jhansi

This Church is one of the oldest and the most popular ones too which is located in the Babina Cantonment area. This church was built during British period for the benefit of the British officers and their families posted in Jhansi.

St. Jude's Shrine

This shrine is dedicated to St. Jude who was one of the Apostles of Jesus Christ. The bone of St. Jude is buried here at the shrine and thus holds a special place among the catholic community. Catholics from all over the country throng here on the occasion of the feast of St. Jude which is celebrated on the 28th of October.

This church is located in Judepur in the Buda Village of Jhansi. This church is dedicated to St. Jude Thaddeus, the Apostle.

The Francis Xavier Church managed by the Jhansi Diocese is located at two places in Jhansi- one at Babina Cantonment and the other within the BHEL Housing Colony.

This cathedral is located in the Railway colony in Jhansi and is under the patronage of St. Antony of Padua. The Patron's Day here is celebrated on the 13th June
