The town of Parichha is 25 kilometers from Jhansi on the Jhansi-Kanpur Highway (Via Kalpi). This quaint town is situated on the banks of River Betwa and is popular for the Parichha Reservoir and Dam. River Betwa, also called as River Vetravathi is a major tributary of River Yamuna that rises in the Vindhya plateau and flows across Madhya Pradesh and parts of southern Uttar Pradesh. Since, most part of the river is not navigable, a number of reservoirs, canals and dams have been built in this region that provides water for drinking purpose, irrigation and generation of power. The popular dams that have been built across the River Betwa are - Parichha, Matatila Dam and Rajghat Dam.
Parichha Dam and Reservoir
Parichha Dam built during the time of the British between 1881 to 1886 and the reservoir created here in the process offers respite to families and farmers in the region. The total length of the dam is 1174.69 meters and height 16.77 meters. This still water body stretches from Parichha to Notghat Bridge that is located 34 kilometers from Jhansi. This place is popular for sporting activities especially boating and fishing activities. Parichha Dam built over River Betwa offers great scenic view of the surroundings. Since the region of Bundelkhand prone to water problems and famine, Parichha Dam water is the main source of water for drinking and agricultural purposes for Jhansi. Due to the perennial water flow from River Betwa, Parichha reservoir is known to have a diverse piscine variety. Hence, fishing is the popular activity here too.
Parichha Thermal Power Station
Parichha Thermal Power Station is a fully operational coal plant having six units with a total capacity of generating 1140 MWe. It comes under the purview of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL).
